Dr. Linda Fried Accepts Award on Behalf of Age-friendly NYC

October 5, 2013  During the International Federation on Ageing’s (IFA) annual conference in Istanbul, Age-friendly NYC, a partnership between The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM), the NYC Mayor’s Office, and the New York City Council, was named the “Best Existing Age-friendly Initiative” in the world.

The award for Best Existing Age-friendly Initiative was the result of the 2013 Summa Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Innovation Awards competition, which was created to recognize an existing-age friendly initiative that demonstrates innovation and visionary approaches to creating cities that are more inclusive of older people.  As a commissioner of Age-friendly NYC, Dr. Linda Fried, Dean of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, joined Dr. Ruth Finkelstein, Director of Age-friendly NYC and Senior Vice President for Policy and Planning at NYAM, to accept the award.
