Abstract: Rapid Societal Aging is a global phenomenon with dramatic implications in many spheres including economics, health care , work and retirement , housing and others . The Aging Society Network is an interdisciplinary group of scholars working in this area with a special focus on the development of metrics to assess the adaptation of societies ( nations and individual US States ) to the demographic transformation . Our focus , with respect to older populations , is on several dimensions including productivity and engagement , well being, generational cohesion, equity and financial and personal security . This presentation will review : key concepts regarding societal aging ; structure of an Index of societal aging ; ratings of countries regarding the Aging Society Index, including gender comparisons, and cross sectional and longitudinal studies of aging in individual States in the US over the period 2003-2017.
